The beginning of Joni's life sounds like more than enough suffering for one sweet dog to endure. She deserved so much better and found it with you. Though I only knew Joni for a short time before her passing, we were fast friends and she never failed to greet me with a wagging nub when she saw me. I really enjoyed spending time with the old girl and getting to know her sweet and quirky personality. I know her absence leaves a huge hole in your heart.

I met Joni at a Halloween party. I was surrounded by humans that night but definitely felt the most comfortable hanging with her. She came over to my house and met the one who saved me after a divorce, my sweet Heinz. She was truly lovely, Paul. Seeing the adventures you two went on brought my heart joy, and brought me memories of my travel and adventures with Heinz. I’m so sorry, my heart aches for you. I’m glad to have met Joni. ❤️

she was the sweetest girl ever and I loved her very much. Her sweetness inspired me to get my own sweet girl (biscuit, a rescued boxer bull) and I will never forget her snuggles and how when Paul would take off her collar and say, "she can be funny when she's naked." hahahaah.

I never met Joni, but I'm crying on a Tuesday afternoon all the same. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that she'll always be a part of you.

Joni was an exceptional dog--truly sui generis. She completely changed the way I think about animals. I will always remember the special bond she had with Mama Jones, which was a magical and deep bond.

What a beautiful piece, Paul. I was only lucky enough to met Joni a few times, but you’re right - she remembered me. She was clearly a big part of your heart and always will be. I hope sharing her story brought you some peace. The rest of the way will find you.

This is a beautiful tribute to your beloved Joni dog. I did something similar when we lost our dog Jack years ago; it was very cathartic, plus it it was a permanent memorial to my boy. Blessings to you for being such a wonderful dog parent for your dog's long life. She was well loved and knew it.
